Rare Midleton Whisky

A 47-year-old bottle of Midleton Whisky, priced around $51,000, ended up at a rather unusual place: the Gormley’s Pub in Ohio. But why would a bottle like this be sent to a ”simple” pub? Let’s find out!

As far as is known, only one of these 47-year-old Midleton whisky bottles is coming to the United States. This fact makes this bottle all the more special! The crystal bottle came in a 200-year-old Japanese Irish box. The ”Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Three” is a 47-year-old whisky made from two whiskies aged in an ex-Sherry barrel and an ex-Bourbon barrel. This whisky has an alcohol percentage of 55.7%. The whisky is released in a 700-milliliter bottle and goes over the counter for $51,000.

Midleton Whisky

But how does such a remarkable whisky end up at a pub in Ohio? Last year, the Irish pub also became the home of the 46-year-old Midleton Whisky, and now so does the 47-year-old variant. The whisky is here because the pub held a fundraiser for both bottles to support the nonprofit Malachi House in Cleveland. This home is dedicated to preserving the human dignity of terminally ill people.

The Midleton distillery specifically chose the Gormely pub because it is a traditional Irish pub, and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Malachi House. Last year the event raised $50,000; this year the proceeds are expected to double! Only nineteen tickets are available for the event. The tickets also carry a price tag of $3,500 each. A lottery will take place where the 20th ticket can be won. Two hundred lottery tickets will be sold for $100 each, with all proceeds again going to the Malachi House.
